Courtois: "Coming away from Getafe with three points gives us confidence for what lies ahead"

5 day(s)

Thibaut Courtois played a key role in the team's victory over Getafe and he spoke to the press following the final whistle in the matchday 33 fixture: "We were a bit sluggish early on and we were struggling to move the ball, but we tried to up the pace a bit and we made it 1-0. They dropped deeper and we looked for the second after the break. Then they started to press a bit higher and we found it hard to pick the right balls and find people in space. Coming away from a tough ground like Getafe with three points gives us confidence for what lies ahead."

“Keeping a clean sheet is important, it's always good to be solid at the back and that's the result when everyone is switched on from a defensive perspective. We've shown that in the last few games and we have to make sure we do it again in the Copa final on Saturday.”

Key saves in the match
“I only faced one shot in the first half and the rest were claiming balls in the air. In the second half, the opposition looked to put more crosses in towards Álvaro and that made life harder for us. Then, when they had their best chance, Milla got a touch on it, then I managed to, and as Juanmi arrives I dive on it. He didn't score and I picked up the rebound. I was focused and playing a man down, we had to hang onto the result."

Copa del Rey final
“We have to show good concentration levels but we're really excited for the Copa final. We lost in the Champions League and we're second in LaLiga, but we want to give the madridistas something to shout about against Barcelona in the cup final."
